Exploring Regensburg
The city of Regensburg, located in the Oberpfalz region of Bavaria, is well worth a visit. The first settlements of the area date to the stone age, and it was the location of the Roman fort Castro Regina. It’s intact medieval old town is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Here are my top tips for a visit to the beautiful city:
City Tours
- Stadtmaus offers excellent basic city tours and a plethora of specialty tours. The scheduled tours are held in German, but groups can book tours in other languages by emailing the office.
- City Tours offers guided tours from the comfort of an enclosed train.
- Segway Regensburg offers German and English Segway tours through the old town, but their site is only in German.
- For more info on tours and sightseeing in Regensburg, see the Regensburg Tourist Office website.
Restaurants
These are Regensburg restaurants that I recommend. If I don’t include a category, like Indian food, it’s because I don’t recommend any of the restaurants in town. Just because a restaurant isn’t included doesn’t necessarily mean it’s not good, I only recommend places I’ve eaten at. Guten Appetit!

I would definately recommend Dicker Mann for Austrian/German cuisine. Kona also has a bit of a strange policy regarding prams. Hong Kong shop on Obermümsterstr. is also a good source for some “English” supplies such as self-raising flour as well as a wide variety of ingrediants for Indian cooking.
@Suzanne: All good points. Dicker Mann is delicious and the pram policy is strange at Kona. I don’t go there any more, but thought it worth a mention since they at least have a play area. I’m going to update the information with your suggestions.
I would suggest the sausage kitchen down by the river (http://www.wurstkuchl.de/) – many people in the UK may recognise it from the BBC language course “Deutsch Direkt!”
The Indian place on Maximilianstrasse, I think it’s called Ganesha, is really good! After living in Rburg for 6 months, when I returned a year later for one day, that’s where I ate.
Peaches is the place to go in Regensburg for pizza deals! Words cannot describe how I miss 5.90 pizzas on Mondays…
