Sweet and Spicy Barbecue Sauce
Serves 2-4 people, depending on how much sauce you like
ingredients
1 cup ketchup
1 cup vinegar
1/2 cup Zuckerrubensirup (or molasses)
1/2 cup honey
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon coarse salt
1 clove garlic, crushed and minced
1/4 teaspoon Tabasco sauce
directions
- Combine all the ingredients in a saucepan over high heat. Whisk until smooth.
- Once sauce comes to a boil, reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 30-45 minutes, or until it has thickened some.
- Remove from heat and let cool. The sauce will thicken more as it cools. If it becomes too thick, add some vinegar.
- Christina’s technique for barbecuing meats: Coat your meat of choice with the sauce and wrap tightly in aluminum foil. Optional (but gives best results): store wrapped meat overnight in refrigerator (keep seam facing up throughout storage and baking process). Bake at low temperature (150°C) until done. Unwrap and serve.
