Sweet and Spicy Barbecue Sauce

Print Friendly

Serves 2-4 people, depending on how much sauce you like

1 cup ketchup
1 cup vinegar
1/2 cup Zuckerrubensirup (or molasses)
1/2 cup honey
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon coarse salt
1 clove garlic, crushed and minced
1/4 teaspoon Tabasco sauce

  1. Combine all the ingredients in a saucepan over high heat. Whisk until smooth.
  2. Once sauce comes to a boil, reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 30-45 minutes, or until it has thickened some.
  3. Remove from heat and let cool. The sauce will thicken more as it cools. If it becomes too thick, add some vinegar.
  4. Christina’s technique for barbecuing meats: Coat your meat of choice with the sauce and wrap tightly in aluminum foil. Optional (but gives best results): store wrapped meat overnight in refrigerator (keep seam facing up throughout storage and baking process). Bake at low temperature (150°C) until done. Unwrap and serve.
