When we first saw our house, we loved everything about it except this room. We knew that this room had to be renovated.
We just couldn’t live with baby poop yellow wall tile. A few thousand Euro later, here’s what we ended up with:
We found the mirror in the clearance section at Kare. Some of the tin was coming up on one section, which we easily fixed with a drop of super glue. Good as new and it ended up being a fabulous bargain.
The sun and the knick knacks on the right, I got just recently on a trip to Erlangen, in a very extensive shop called “Schönes aus aller Welt” at Dreikönigstrasse 3. It’s a tad pricey, but the selection is awesome and we did encounter a couple bargains.
I’m quite happy with how this room turned out. Originally, we had planned on using the dark tiles behind the sink as well, but the guy we first had doing the tiling in the bathrooms underestimated how much of the dark tile we needed. He also overestimated how much of the light tile we needed for another bathroom, so we used that here behind the sink. I wasn’t sure at first how the two tiles would look together, but I really like the look now. It highlights the sink, and I think it might have ended up too dark and cold with the other tile behind the sink. So his screw up was a blessing in disguise.

I love the remodel!
Thanks, Maria!
Wow! Looks super! Thanks for the inspiration.
lovely! it looked rather cold before, now it’s warm & cozy.
Love it. Especially the contrast of the tile. You see that type of thing done in a lot of upper end kitchens where I live. The cabinetry of the island is a contrast of the cabinetry of the wall. Very similar idea and very classy looking. The nick-knacks are cool too. I find they are sometimes the hardest things to add into a room.
Thanks, all. I have seen a lot of pictures with the contrasting islands in kitchens and I really like that look. If we ever renovate the kitchen (or when we eventually do) I’d like to do something like that. I find accessorizing a room to be one of the hardest things to do. There are several rooms waiting on those last couple finishing touches.
