Leo turns two weeks old today and these last two weeks have been quite a roller coaster.
The second induction went smoothly and within a few hours, I was in labor. Thirty hours after I started getting contractions, Leo was born, weighing in at 4510 grams (almost 9 lbs, 15 oz).
He wasn’t breathing at first and had to be whisked off to the pediatrician. He was doing well, but was put into the newborn station for observation for his first 3 days. It drove me a little crazy to be apart from him, but I was having trouble with my right leg, so I was kept busy with my own issues.
It seems Leo was so big, that he irritated some of the nerves in my pelvis during the birth, so for the first few days, my right leg was numb and tingly (like when your leg falls asleep), and weak. I was seen by a neurologist and got an MRI done of my leg and pelvis, which ruled out anything permanent. My leg is still weak, and I can’t walk long distances, but physical therapy should fix it all up.
On Tuesday after the birth, we were released, and as soon as we got home, we heard that my father-in-law was not doing well. Rainer and Oliver made the trip to my in-laws and arrived just in time to say goodbye. It wasn’t ideal for Oliver, with us bringing the baby home and then “sending him away,” but it couldn’t be helped. Once he was back, he ignored the baby. Yesterday, he finally decided he wanted to touch the baby and he held him twice. He also gave the baby a kiss for the first time.
Rainer and Oliver are gone again for the funeral. Things have been crazy and stressful, I still need some time to adjust and relax and get breastfeeding off to a good start, so I won’t be blogging regularly for a bit. Hope you all are enjoying the World Cup, I know I am!

Congratulations!
I just came across your blog after seeing a link to it on Toytown Germany (to the vanilla extract post). I am so excited to read your blog. I think I might have to go from start to finish. What I have read was fantastic, and I could totally relate.
Congrats on your birth, I am expecting my first in December.
Best wishes
Rena

So much sorrow and happiness all at once, I imagine your poor husband is quite overwhelmed. Thank goodness there’s Leo now. He couldn’t have come at a better time and I hope the joy of having him, Oliver and you will be a comfort to Rainer during this time of loss.
As for you, a hearty congratulations and I hope the nausea is long gone! I had severe morning sickness with each of mine and each time you posted about it I knew how you felt. So glad you’ve crossed the finish line successfully with your beautiful boy. Two beautiful boys!

Congratulations – Leo is gorgeous and what a lovely name. Hope your leg is getting better – unexpected tingling is very disturbing, somehow even more so because it doesn’t really hurt as such imho.
Sorry to hear about your father-in-law. It’s good that your hubby was able to get to say goodbye. My sympathies on your loss.
Congratulations! How wonderful for you. As long as the roller coaster comes to a standstill eventually, you have more to enjoy.
