I wasn’t able to complete this week’s Real German Cuisine Challenge, Mussel Salad, so I owe you guys that post sometime in the future. Unfortunately, it probably won’t be in the near future. I have to cancel the Challenge for the rest of this year at least, so also no Stollen making, but the recipe is up if you want to make it (I’ll link to your post if you write it up).
I haven’t been doing too well recently, in fact, basically the only reason I’ve left the house in the last month has been to visit a doctor. It sucks being housebound, it sucks even more being pretty much bed- or sofa-bound, while having to watch a toddler, but my neighbors have been really good about helping out, knowing that we don’t have family nearby. At least I have the internet, I can’t imagine how people stuck at home ill got along pre-internet. It’s still very lonely and socially isolating with that outlet.
I’ll try to post when I can, but it will probably be infrequently. But hopefully I’ll be back in blogging form and ready to continue with more Real German Cuisine Challenges in January. Till then, enjoy your holidays and Happy Thanksgiving.

Hi There, Sorry to hear you have been so under the weather! Hope you recover quickly and don’t feel guilty about taking the time you need! Health is the most important thing.

Ah Christina…I really hope you start to feel better soon.

Sound like you and I are in the same boat so to speak. I’m kind of housebound with a relapse of fybromyalgia that struck when we returned from Greece. I know all about how it feels to be housebound. I wish you a speedy recovery and will keep tabs on you…ciao

Take care of yourself! This time of year is hard enough with all of the activities/festivities – and then add illness to it…
See you in the New Year!

Wow, very sorry to hear that, Ms G. Get well soon.
I’m glad you have a support network to help you.
I am truly sorry you are not well and hope you recover soon! I enjoy reading your blog a lot. My husband and I lived in Stuttgart in the early 70s when he was working at the technical university there, and one of my sons-in-law is from near Munich. Your posts inspire me to try new things!
Hi,
I just stumbled across your blog, and it brought back memories from my year living in Hamburg, Germany. It takes a long time to make friends over there. I really missed the chatting with strangers like we do here in the States. Our chattiness may be superficial, but it allows you the open door towards friendship, dating, etc…Maybe it is superficial but it makes you at least pretend that people care at all. I had absolutely no doubt that if I had died in the street, the Germans would either keep walking, or complain that my body was in the way. That is just a cold, hard fact about the Germans. Of course it is different with family and close “friends.” Blut ist dicker als Wasser, nicht wahr. I am hardcore German background, but coming from the friendly Midwest, I found this coldness and hostility in shops like you mentioned a real turnoff. My family left the German coldness two generations ago. Most Germans have their small clique of good friends from childhood, and it is hard to break into the friend zone. Ireland, on the other hand, is warm, chatty, funny.. I wonder why European countries developed so differently in terms of friendliness. Oh well… That is what broke the German deal for me. I loved the Fussgaengerzoene und die Staedte waren toll, aber die Leute.. Schade..Of course your children will make their own cliques in school, so they won’t notice any difference. Good luck and thanks for the blog.
Hope your feeling better soon! will miss your blog..hopefully your son likes to color, play with blocks and cars for a little self entertainment.. and before internet of course there was trying to read, talk on the phone, watch a little t.v., fool with the radio channels and yes solitaire.. and of course lots of sleep.. take care
Oh Poppet, Get Well soon… have really enjoyed your cooking adventures.

It sucks to be sick! So I am sending some heartfelt wishes and a speddy recovery your way! Please get well soon!
This is a great travel blog that you have here. I’m a first-time visitor, but I like what I see. I have a travel blog myself which I want to be a top resource for those looking for information and experiences on popular vacation destinations.
I would like us to do a link exchange to help spread some traffic around between our sites. Please let me know if this is possible.

Hi. E-mail me if you can. Wonder if it might work better to visit you in Oak Hill Dec 20/21 vs. Dec 27. Thinking it might work better for us… we won’t be exhausted from family visit over Christmas. I do not have your mom’s number anymore… think you might be there already!!! Hope you are on the mend now.
Thanks for the well wishes everyone! Still not doing any better, but it will pass eventually (hopefully sooner rather than later). Although I would definitely not recommend my method, I have dropped 16 pounds, so there’s that
@Dave: There’s no recipe, just slice the Stollen and dip it in french toast batter. In case you need it, my french toast recipe is 2-3 eggs, 2 tablespoons milk for each egg, dash of salt, dash of pepper, and teaspoon of (homemade) vanilla extract. Then fry the Stollen in butter.
@rachael: Done. See you soon!
Wow, I’m late to this (still trying to catch up on my blog reading), but I’m thinking nice thoughts of you and hope that you are feeling much better very soon.
