March 1 – 7, 2009
This week I worked on using bokeh in my photos. In these first photos, I created the bokeh with my camera:
On these next two photos, I tried creating the bokeh in Photoshop Elements using a trial version of the bokeh filter plugin from Alien Skin Software. I really prefer the camera versions, for $200 (for the full version), I think the plugin creations look faked. Or maybe I just haven’t had enough practice using it, still got 28 days on the trial to experiment (no way am I buying this!).

Shrub, bokeh-fied (and the original)

Love the shot of the pussywillows…and you’re right. The real bokeh looks much better than the fake.

Yeah, the camera versions clicked better with me– they seem much more dramatic. Snow Drops and Lichen were probably my favorites, but boy it is close– the textures on the pussywillow and the Chinese lanterns are both so nice.

lovely shots this week
Wow, you did well on those!!! I love the snowdrops, great composition, great bokeh, very sharp subject, perfect! The one with Oliver on the other hand does not work. The original one is MUCH better! Still great job, bokeh is not easy to get right!

Amazing how you turn that withering Chinese lantern into a piece of art. I like your other pieces, too, especially pussy willow and snowdrop.
