Something I’ve been working on for a while now, is an aStore – two actually, one through Amazon USA and one through Amazon Germany. I’ve gathered items I think might be of interest to my readers there, where you can browse and if you wish, buy, with a small percentage of the sale going to support this site (the prices aren’t any higher than at amazon.de or amazon.com).
Here are the categories I’ve selected:
- About Germans and Germany
- Travel Guides
- Learning German
- German Literature (in original German and English translation)
- German Children’s Literature (in original German and English translation)
- German language films
- German music
- Novels set in German-speaking lands
- Films and TV set in German-speaking lands
- Novels and Films about being an expatriate
- Non-fiction about Expatriates (memoirs, bios, etc)
- Useful items for expats
- Blogging
- Cookbooks
- Photography
For many of these, I’ll be making a post in the future with a list of titles, since when I searched for, say, “books set in Germany,” I didn’t really find much out there on the web, so I think it would be useful to some folks.
I’d love for you to take a look and tell me what you think. Suggestions (products or otherwise) are welcome.
There’s also a link to the stores in the navigation bar at the top of the blog.
Thanks for reading!

I’ve always wondered – how does one set one of those aStores up?
Congrats on getting this up and running, very nice selection. Since you asked for feedback–I think it’s an interesting concept, in particular if you expand on it a little based on your DE experience, which IMHO is the greatest strength of your list. For example, if I was first coming to DE or very interested in learning German in the US and had found your ‘Learning German’ collection through google, I’d be very interested to know why you are recommending these books, or which ones didn’t make your list, so a posting around the topic and linked to this page would be interesting. In particular, I’d consider you an authority from reading your blog, but for someone who is just initially clicking into this estore as a first page, maybe it needs to be more visible, your knowledge on this collection. But that would just be a future enhancement thought, overall it looks great.
heather in europes last blog post..Why I love living in Europe
Very cool! I’ll take a closer look at these later today, but for now I have them saved to my favorites
Great idea!
@kelsey: If you go to Amazon, look in the left sidebar under Features & Services, then Selling With Amazon, you’ll find Associates Program. You need to sign up for the program, then it’s easy to make a store. Oh, here’s a direct link: https://affiliate-program.amazon.com/
@heather: Thanks, Heather. That’s a good idea.
@isabella: Thanks!
