AmiExpat is the Third Best European (non-UK) Blog

by Christina Geyer on January 15, 2009 · 12 comments

At least according to the people who participated in and the organizers of the 2008 Weblog Awards, where this blog was voted into 3rd place in the Best European (non UK) Blog category with 678 votes.

Thanks to everyone who voted for me. It was exciting to be picked as a nominee, especially since the finalists weren’t chosen based on the number of nominations they had, but rather by the organizers.

After checking out my fellow finalists and the finalists in other categories, I was pretty surprised by how many conservative, political blogs there were.  Since I don’t read them, I have no idea if the number of conservative blogs in the finals is representative of the number there are out there in the Blogosphere, or if they were overrepresented in the finals, if they just happen to be better written in general, or if their readers are just more active. No matter what, it was fun to be involved and nice to find some more really great blogs out there to follow.

Thanks again to all the people who voted for me and to my readers for all your support!

Thanks guys, and I’m totally honored to be third, really! Hey, even tenth best blog in continental Europe would have been awesome!

It’s too bad the category was so broad. There’s no way political blogs should be thrown in with personal blogs like yours. Apples-and-oranges and all that.
Mentioned this before, but it’s good to see that David’s Medienkritik didn’t get very far at all. Not only does he write right-wing drivel and lies about the German press, he hasn’t posted regularly in more than a year. A good thing, I suppose.

@ian: That’s true. I was up against a science blog, a political blog, and a photo blog among others. It’s hard to compare across such different styles. I am glad to have whomped David’s Medienkritik. I’m sure his lack of posting helped, but I think I read he’ll be posting over at No Pasaran, the second place finisher, now.

@jientje: Thanks!

@BiB: Exactly, a podium finish is still really great ;-)
