I meant to get this out on December 31, but that didn’t quite work out, so HAPPY NEW YEAR! And here are some highlights of the last year on AmiExpat:
- 2008 started for us in the United States
- We experienced a trip through Hell on Iberia Airlines while traveling back to Germany from Northern Virginia
- I started doing Video Wednesday, and will be continuing soon with a lesson on making Thai red curry
- I made vanilla extract at home, and it’s delicious, I will never go back to store bought stuff – I really need to update that post
- I invited readers to submit questions and answered them here and here
- I finally wrote up my experience of sexual harassment that led to me leaving the PhD program at Duke
- I helped organize the Regensburg Expat Weekend
- Obama came to speak in Berlin
- I started a parenting blog, Mamas Worldwide, along with Blythe, Maria and Tammy
- I attended an awesome cooking class at Rosenpalais, which I hope to do again this year
- I began the Off the Beaten Path challenge, which is still ongoing, and wrote about off the beaten track places to visit in the Oberpfalz region of Germany
- I started participating in Weekly Winners, posting my favorite photos of the weekevery Sunday for all to see
- I was interviewed on the Where We Live radio show about how Germans view the US election
- Barack Obama was elected president
- I participated in the Guardian.co.uk’s Message for Obama FlickR pool and my photo got chosen to be published in the Message for Obama book. My copy arrived last week and I got a whole page spread (but my name is spelled Christine instead of Christina, oh well!)
- I met up with That Queer Expatriate in Northern Virginia
- I got interviewed by Yankee in a New World
- I made 14 new posts in my Tips for Expats category, including posts on finding a used car in Germany, sorting trash in Germany, dealing with ticks, and demystifing the art of dressing like a German
- And I rang in the new year with friends in Regensburg, Tammy wrote that up well, so I’ll end with a link to her post.
