December 21 – December 27, 2008

It’s the last Weekly Winners of 2008!

We had a busy holiday week with a lot of traveling.Traveling boy

On the way to see Oma and Opa, we stopped at Bad DürkheimBad Dinkheim

And just happened to drive through the town of FrankensteinFrankenstein, Germany

Where we saw the ruins of Frankenstein’s castleFrankenstein's castle

We had a lovely Christmas EveChristmas Eve 2008

Until Oliver tried to set a wineglass on fireChristmas Eve 2008

And we finally got to eat all those delicious cookies I baked last weekChristmas cookies

On Friday, we visited the ruins of a Roman villa in WittlichRoman villa, Wittlich

And another in MehringRoman villa, Mehring

And yet another in LonguichRoman villa in Longuich

We managed to squeak in time for a family portraitThe family

Then we hopped over the border to Metz, France for some sightseeing and shopping.Eglise Protestant de Metz

We got home late yesterday evening and gorged ourselves on French bread, butter, cheese and lemon tart. We brought home a bunch of French toddler meals.  After baguette and Christmas cheese, Oliver couldn’t quite finish his spinach and salmon dinner, so Rainer finished it off, complimenting the chef and recommending white wine as an accompaniment.  We’re going to be gorging like kings for the next few weeks.  I guess I should be glad we don’t live in France, cause I certainly wouldn’t be fitting into my skinny jeans if we lived there.  How in the world do all those French people stay so skinny?  Anyways, now we just need to figure out what to make with these mushrooms of death (click the picture if you don’t believe me) and we’ll be set.

Goodies from France

You mean Trompettes de la mort? I love them!! No need to do complicated thing with them, rinse them very very quickly in some cold water, dip them dry, toss them in some butter and add some parsley and /or garlic, pepper and salt! I’ll come cook them if you want!! Heehee!
Lovely pictures, you had a wonderful week, I can tell! Buying food in France is indeed very very tempting!!
