Yankee Talks to AmiExpat, and the rest of my week

by Christina Geyer on December 8, 2008

I’ve been interviewed by Yankee in a New World.  Wanna know more about me?  Go read it.  I tried to offer a little more details than I did in my Where We Live interview.  I always thought just answering a question was better, since that’s all the questioner wanted to know, and I didn’t want to bore people by going off on tangents, but that interview taught me that sometimes it’s better be a little more verbose.  I’ve been trying it as well in real life, but it’s hard to get over my natural quietness.

As you probably have noticed, I was pretty burned out by NaBloPoMo and needed a break, so yeah, not even Weekly Winners got posted this week (I didn’t really take any photos to post anyway).  I think if you’re the type of person that posts every day or practically every day, it’s probably easy to do NaBloPoMo, but if you’re like me, posting only 2-4 times a week on average due to being busy or lack of interesting enough ideas, you might find NaBloPoMo to be a real creativity killer.  I’ve noticed a lot of other blogs I follow who participated also haven’t made a new post in December yet, so I’m guessing I’m not alone in this feeling.

We made it back to Germany in one piece, barely.  I made it through check-in and security fine, got my last US-based Starbucks latte, and sat down to let Oliver play some.  About half-way through my coffee, my throat started to hurt, by the time the plane took off, I was wrapped in my blanket and Oliver’s blanket with my winter coat thrown on top.  I begged Oliver to please just go to sleep cause mama was so very, very tired, but he would have none of that and partied over the first half (4 hours to be exact) of the flight.  It would be difficult to explain, if you haven’t been in the situation, how utterly, mind-blowingly terrible it is to take care of a toddler on a plane trip while you are sick as a dog.  But Oliver was mostly pleasant, only whining a little.  We didn’t get any stares and he played peek-a-boo with the lady behind us and the lady across the aisle.  The flight attendants and our seat neighbors all commented later that he was a pleasure to sit near and complimented his good behavor.

My illness only ended up being a 24-hour thing amazingly.  On Thursday I headed over to An’s in Harting to take part in Adventsfenster (Advent’s window).  Each night in December, a neighbor offers a treat to the village.  We sang carols and An made cookies and Glühwein (mulled wine).  Tammy has a nice write up of the event, including photos.

On Satuday night we were invited to dinner at the last minute by An, after our original dinner host came down ill and had to cancel.  Something must have been going around, cause halfway through the delicious chicken entree, I started feeling a bit ill myself.  I passed out immediately upon returning home and slept all of Sunday.  I’m heading to the doctor in a little over an hour with the sneaking suspicion that I will be coming home with antibiotics for a severe sinus infection.  It feels like a boxer has been pummeling my face, yeah, not good.

When I’m feeling better, I’ll write up my thoughts on visiting US and returning to Germany.  I hope you are all feeling better than I am!

Ay, chica! Feel better, ok? Or else… Hope it’s not a sinus infection. Enjoy your herbal remedies, if so.

P.S. If you like Christina as much as I do, you really do want to read the interview, she gave some thoughtful and enlightening answers, that could help a lot of expats.

Oooooh, sorry you’re feeling poorly. You looked a little wiped out on Saturday toward the end of the evening. I figured it was just jet lag catching up with you.

And nice job on the interview (both you and NWY)!

Poor you. Get well soon. And love to you all.

I hope you feel better soon! My whole family’s been battling something for the past week as well. It only lasted a couple days for me, but hubby and the kids are faring worse - I’m headed to the pediatrician later for my two youngest. Their wet coughs have lasted almost a week and show no sign of going away.

I’m sure that’s part of his being a total flirt. Sauntering up to me, batting those those big blue eyes, trying to get a closer look at my plate…

ZOMG HE LEARNED IT BY WATCHING CHARLIE

Thanks everyone for the well wishes. I’m feeling better now. Doc said it wasn’t an infection and sent me home to take Tylenol and Sinupret. I spent the afternoon in town today and felt great still.

@sarah: Yeah, I was pretty wiped out Saturday.

@bib: Love to you too. I need to get up to Berlin again, am missing the big city life.

@mariecel: Hope the family is doing better. It sucks when the little ones are ill.

@claire: Thanks!

@kat: Thanks for commenting! I love meeting new readers. Nice blog too, you’re in my reader now as well.

@cliff: Rainer commented on the same thing. At dinner the other night he had two guys staring up at him pathetically. He said it was almost too much eye-batting to handle.

@rita: Thanks!
