Just got this response about my submission from The Guardian.
:: Your pic in the Messages for Obama pool
Hello
As you know Guardian News & Media (GNM) recently set up a
group on Flickr called “A Message for Obama” to capture the
many and diverse personal reactions to the election of
President Obama. Thank you for taking part! We have been
inspired and excited by both the quantity and quality of
contributions so far – it’s an amazing collaborative
effort. To further commemorate this historic occasion, Guardian
Books is publishing a book called “A message for
Obama”, featuring some of the images uploaded to this
Flickr group. The book will be 140 pages long, with a
recommended retail price of up to GBP 9.99, and will be
available in December 08.This is a not-for-profit venture, as GNM will be donating
all proceeds from this edition to the Guardian Katine
project, details of which can be found at:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/katineWe would very much like to include your photograph in this
project.http://www.flickr.com/photos/clg20171/3010317449/
In order to include it, we need you to agree to give us the
non-exclusive, worldwide right to include your photograph in
this book and in any GNM publication digital or print
publication.Due to the large number of photographs included in the
book, we are unfortunately unable to offer a fee for this
reproduction. However, if your photograph is used, we will
fully credit your photograph and can also send you one copy
of the book on publication. As our print deadline is tight, we need to hear from you by
Monday 17 November 2008 if you want to be involved. If we do
not hear from you by this time then your photograph will NOT
be included.
After several days now, I’m kinda not perfectly happy with the message I picked. It coulda been better. But it’s what I was feeling right then. So should I or shouldn’t I?

of course you sgould!!!!! that’s exactly the stuff you’ll be showing to your grandchildren one day!!!!! wow! this is amazing!!!
No, leave it as it is. If that is what you felt, than by all means it should go in there just like that. I actually like the message you are sending out. It means that we, as Americans, are willing to work to get our country back to the way it was. I love your message.
But saying that, now I am curious…what do you want to say now?
I think the photo and message are perfect for a book like this. I like the fact the proceeds are going to a worthy cause, not lining some publisher’s pockets with free material.

I’d do it. It’s probably going to be an interesting book.

Okay, yeah, you guys are right. I’m not really sure what I would say now. I think my Republican family got to me a little. I showed them the pic and they gave me a bunch of slack saying that since I don’t live in the US, I wasn’t going to have to sacrifice, so I was basically just a big loser. Rainer was also not that enthusiastic about the picture for completely different reasons – ooh, which might make a good blog post, I’ll have to check with him about that. Anyways, in short, it has to do with being a kid of the WWII generation.
Go for it!

Do it! Do it! I love the photo and your message. Of
course it could mean different things to different people, depending on your background and party affiliation. What I got from it:
It was a message to the future. Now we have to share our piece of the pie, maybe not use so much of it either, that is, if all of us are going to enjoy life on this earth, America and abroad. If you believe in it, let them publish it.
Yes, definitely do it!!! You message was perfect and important to say. Congrats!
the message is on…actually something that we will all have no choice about no matter where we live in the coming recession years… the “sacrifice” generations in America and Germany also became the wealthiest of all previous or since. I can imagine your message will be seen as nearly “prophetic” later.
Don’t let’em get you down over there!
(my German husband and I stayed up all night for the election and cried all morning – I even thought about waking up my 3 year old to see Obama’s acceptance speech, but couldn’t bring myself to do it… although it was the greatest moment in American history so far!!)
I just sent in my info and permission to the Guardian. Woohoo!
Yea!I was coming to say “just do it!”
