Hi, Christina,
I follow this website of yours faithfully, came upon your genie blog through Jasia’s site originally and we have communicated a few times. I especially enjoyed this video tour of your town today. It was wonderful and made me long for a visit to Germany again.
Actually I am going to do just that in the fall when I visit cousins in Berlin that I connected with back in 1999. An interesting remark that my cousin made to me confused me a bit and I thought I would see if you could explain before I try to ask him in our sketchy English/German way of talking. He made the remark that “in our apartment building there is an apartment with 4 rooms for guests to stay in and you are welcome to live in these rooms when you visit us in Berlin”. I am taking this to mean that the apartment complexes perhaps dedicate a unit for guests – interesting concept? If so, there must certainly be a charge to the guest or the tenant I would think. I had never heard of this before and thought of asking you. Hope you don’t mind my using your site here to ask that question but I throughly enjoyed your tour of Laaber. Hope you and your family are doing well. Cheryl
Awesome, very nice and idyllic!:)
How delightful! It reminds me of the town where my cousin lives, Dillenburg (near Marburg), a bit north of you. This would make a great meme! Give us a tour of your town…
Carol
Nice impression of Laaber (I imagined it much smaller). And I spotted the guy with Lederhosen ;0)
Many greetings from the North!
If anyone puts up a tour of their hometown, put a comment here so we can see it!
@Cheryl: I would say that there’s a 3-bedroom (plus living room = 4 rooms) apartment in his building that’s furnished and unoccupied. I’ve never heard of keeping a guest apartment though. Maybe he knows the owner? I wouldn’t assume it to be free of charge, but maybe it is. You’ll have to ask him for more info. I hope that helps, and thanks for reading!
@silvia: It’s a nice place and the locals are pretty friendly too.
@carol: That’s a great idea!
@sabine: I think there was a wedding in town or something. Were quite a few folks with Lederhosen around that day.
I seriously love seeing people tooling around town in Trachten. Especially when we have people visiting. The video tour is really cool.
You did go all out. I’m impressed. What editing tool did you use?
Christina – Thanks for an interesting guided tour. Great idea!
i *love* your video posts!!!
didn’t spot the guy in the Lederhosn, though, but i could hear charlie all the way through.
I’m glad you all like it. I’m slowly but surely getting over my self-consciousness about making (and speaking on) videos.
@diane: I used Adobe Premiere Elements. Brother #2 told me over Christmas that there’s some other program I should use instead, but I can’t remember what it was anymore.
@rita: Good ear! Charlie and Oliver accompanied me the whole way.
Great video and I love your site. I live in Chicago, but most of my family lives in Elpersdorf (Ansbach) which is not far from you. I visit my Oma und Tante at least once per year. Last time was in October 2007.
Thanks for taking the time to blog and for doing such a great job. I love Germany and appreciate your efforts.
