We’re going to be in München on Tuesday (Sept 4) to report Oliver’s birth at the consulate. Let me know if any of you Müncheners want to get together for lunch afterwards. Bis dann!

    Good luck, and take every possible piece of paperwork you can with you.

    Good luck on Tuesday, and listen to J, that’s good advice! You might know that you have to prove that you’ve lived in the U.S. for 5 years. Report cards fulfill this, or at least did for me.

    @j: Thanks for the advice. The consulate actually requires that you mail copies of all your paperwork to them first before they’ll make an appointment with you, so I should have everything I need (I’ll still bring along anything they could conceivably want though, just in case!)

    @martina: That’s basically what I’m using, I sent them copies of my K-12 transcripts and am bringing my college transcripts along too, just in case.

    Oh, wow, nowadays you can mail your paperwork in beforehand? Cool! I haven’t been to the consulate since 1997, I imagine a lot has changed, especially since 9/11. My passport expires this year, though, probably already has now that I think about it, so I’ll be making that trek sometime soon.

    Just back from holiday. Seems everything went well and that little Oliver is doing fine. Congratulations! :-)

    @martina: I thought it was a pain at first, but it’s a pretty good idea really. It makes sure you’ve got everything you need to have before you make the trek to the consulate and, in the end, saves both parties time.

    @swenglishexpat: Thanks! And welcome home!
