It’s un-believable!
What’s so special bout this picture?
& Oliver - 31 July 2007" height="193" />
Why, it’s of me in my pre-pregnancy jeans!
I got on the scale this afternoon and was shocked to find that eight days after giving birth, I am only 3 pounds over my pre-pregnancy weight. This inspired me to try on my jeans and cha-ching - they fit! I can sit in them and everything - in fact, they fit well enough that I’m still wearing them right now as I type this up! My tummy is quite a bit flabbier - and my hips and butt are a slightly less pretty shape - but wow, this is reason to celebrate!
And here’s a picture of my sweety Oliver sleeping peacefully:

I posted two more videos to YouTube (here and here). They’re both very cute (in my admittedly biased opinion). I’ll be posting videos there regularly for my family back in the States, but from now on, I will only post about especially cute videos here, so as not to overwhelm the readers who may not be as into baby videos as some, so if you want to see the new videos as I post them, just bookmark my YouTube user page and check it every once in a while.
My mother is claiming that Brother #1 is engaged and that he showed her the receipt for the engagement ring. When I spoke to him on Saturday, he admitted that he sorta had a girlfriend in Thailand, but that it wasn’t serious. Hmph. Who knows?
Since starting Oliver on Lefax drops, his tummy aches seem to have improved and he’s crying a lot less. I’ve also been drinking lots of Stilltee (breastfeeding tea), which may have helped my milk to come in - it came in the same day I started drinking - coincidence? I dunno. But then Rainer cooked pasta with garlic last night and Oliver refused to drink after that, so I guess I’ll need to be going easy on the garlic in the future. Strange - I ate a ton of garlic during pregnancy, he should like it!

Congrats on the pre-pregnancy jeans
Oliver just keeps getting cuter and cuter!
Cool I guessed right!
I subscribed to your videos, babies are the cutest subjects. I can not believe Oliver is only a week old. He just seems so big! I love his little “cry” at the end of the one video, I wanted to scoop him up :)
@martina: Thanks!
@andrea: You did - and he is big! I realized I miscalculated the metric conversion and he was actually 8 pounds, 6.5 ounces at birth - half an ounce heavier than I was (my poor poor tiny asian mum!)
also congrats on jeans! That is amazing. but it is my impression that German OBGYNS don’t encourage you to gain as much weight as they do in the US.
Don’t throw out the garlic yet (if you like it) it is probably something else that is bothering him. Garlic makes breastmilk tastier: http://pediatrics.aappublications.org/cgi/content/abstract/88/4/737
Oliver is adorable! Very, very handsome AND adorable, in fact!
Regarding the jeans, oh man, am I ever envious!! I never did fit again in my pre-pregnancy clothes with Elisabeth or Peter and after the twins’ birth… well, we won’t even talk about it! (Sigh!) Congrats!!
Carol
Wow, impressive about the jeans. I can’t even believe it!
Love the videos… that is one alert kiddo. Boy oh boy, are you gonna have your hands full with that one!
Fun baby game (in case you haven’t tried this): Get up close to Oliver and make faces… stick out your tongue, make your eyes big, whatever. They’re so programmed to communicate that they are great mimics, even that early. :)
Great news on the jeans - I hope to fit into my pre-pregnancy clothes one of these days. Did I mention that my children are in the double digits now? (Come on, I can’t be the only one out here who never lost all the baby weight…)
@xanafunny: I don’t know about differences between obgyns, but I didn’t make any special effort to not gain much. I think it’s due more to the fact that I lost 6 pounds the first trimester because I was so nauseous all day long! And thanks for the link. I love garlic and would hate to have to give it up. I’ll try again and see what happens.
@carol: It’s a total shock to me that I am in my jeans again. If you told me before I got pregnant that I would gain such little weight I wouldn’t have believed you!
@o-tay: I have been doing the faces! I hope he won’t be too hyperactive. I can just see him running amok and driving me crazy once he starts walking!
@anon: I wasn’t tiny to start with, so that helps! And I’m pretty certain my mom never got back into the tiny little size 0 miniskirts she wore before I was born. ;-)
You look fabulous and I really love your accessories.
He’s such a little doll he makes me want to squeak.
Prepare for a big weight loss with the nursing. I lost twenty pounds immediately when I nursed, it was great.
Great about the jeans!
Whoohoo!
I was on holiday when Baby Oliver broke out of his party cell.
Congratulations to you and your hubby on your new arrival.
Hi Christina,
Great news for you ! I’am sure that you feel great, and are happy to get back into your favorite clothes.
I loved seeing you & Oliver together. Charlie looks particuarlly protective for the both of you !
I’ll be earmarking your youtabe account
Take care, my friend.
@lisa: It would be fabulous if I could drop 20 pounds without really trying (it’d go a little ways towards burning off my extra expat poundage - oh to be skinny again, that would be wonderful!)
@j & heza: Thanks!
@barbara: It is nice to have a real wardrobe again! Take care as well!
Just got done watching his youtube videos… what a cutie!! Congrats on your uber-fast weight loss… maybe that’s karmas way of making up for your difficulties healing post birth?
He’s really alert and mellow for such a little guy. At that age Sydney was either screaming, sleeping, or eating… not a whole lot of just peacefully looking around.
@b: I think you’re right about the karma. I don’t have any prior experience with babies, so I have no idea what’s normal (I just assume that he’s a typical baby), but I’m a pretty happy mom. He’s a great little guy.
