I will try to get around to writing up the birth this week. In the meantime, I uploaded my first video to YouTube, made of Oliver this morning:
Here’s Oliver on Saturday:

And this is us from yesterday:

Oliver is a bit of a cranky guy. He’s been having problems with gas, so sometimes he cries and cries. Oddly, I am still completely smitten with him even when he is hollering bloody murder. I never had “motherly” feelings before. I didn’t coo at babies or get all gushy about them. I pretty much felt like, if I never had a baby, it wouldn’t be too big of a deal for me. Rainer wanted a family though and I was okay with that, if perhaps a bit hesitant about my parenting skills. But it is really so wonderful having a baby. I can’t believe I waited this long. It’s amazing to think that I’ve only known this guy a week and I am so totally head-over-heels in love with him. I am completely content to cuddle with him, or just watch him sleep, all day long (this doesn’t bode well for keeping up with blogging regularly, but maybe I will just need an adjustment period and I’ll be able to slip back into some of my old routine).

Christina,
what a beautiful baby! I’d be perfectly content just holding him, too
Good luck with the gas, i.e. his, my son spent a lot of time crying and it turned out to be an allergy to regular formula, so he ended up drinking hypo-allergenic soy formula (he couldn’t even drink regular soy formula). That’s the reason I was so adamant about nursing my daughter.
Martina,
who satisfies her motherly feelings by adding a new animal to her “zoo” every few years at the latest!
Those plump rosy cheeks are precious:+)
Awwwwwwwww!
How’s Charlie? Shellshocked? Pulling the pram around?
@martina: I’m already breastfeeding, but I’ve cut out onions, cabbage and milk products and we’re giving him Lefax Tropfen before mealtimes. He’s crying a bit less than when we first brought him home.
@schokolade madchen: I love them too!
@bowleserised: Charlie is coping. I think he’s a bit concerned about all the crying, but otherwise he’s been a good older “brother” so far.
Awesome and Adorable! I wish I could be closer to hold him! The Boy was gassy, but it never really seemed to bother him, but I avoided gassy triggers (onions, garlic, broccoli and cauliflower for us). I have read that tummy rubbing/baby massage can help, but who knows. LOL!
Keep posting the pictures! I check often… I love other peoples’ babies! (I love mine too, but he’s not so small any more!
Christina, congratulations to both of you, that is one adorable little baby boy… you’ll sort out the gas problems. I know all about “baby love” my offspring can’t let his baby girl out of his arms and it’s been three months now. Doesn’t hurt them though, they feel the love…ciao
He is very cute.
Don’t worry about blogging regularly, blog when you can. We’ll still be here.
Ha, now you understand why I’m always a month behind on my blog.
Oliver is so adorable (and so alert!)… no wonder you’re smitten! Staring at your own baby is both highly addictive and a legitimate hobby. I’m glad you’re enjoying it!
He is so cute
Try gas drops (in the US they’d be Mylicon drops, not sure here but they saved us big time when ds was a baby).
Doesn’t it just feel like he has always been at your side?
Congratulations again!
Hi Christina,
Thank you so much for sharing this first video !
I can undrstand falling in love with that little guy.
Count your blessings…
Glad to see that Charlie is coping, too !
Take care.
I wish you could’ve heard us adoring your baby here in Aachen.
Lots of shouts and “Awwww’s!” and “how sweeeeeeet!” Justin even asked to watch the video twice. Christina you did good! He’s perfect, and he looks Just. Like. You.
look at you two!
::huggles::
When you’re a baby you can be as cranky as you want.:-)
He is SO adorable! Thanks for posting the video. Takes me back to the days when I had my babies and would sometimes literally do NOTHING all day but cuddle and gaze at them. You can’t help but be in love.
My nephew cried non-stop for about 6 months before he was finally diagnosed with infant reflux and given medication to take care of it. But I think Oliver is probably just getting used to breastfeeding and being a baby in general.
@maria: Sometimes tummy rubbing helps, sometimes he just seems to need to cry it out. Rainer put garlic in our pasta last night and Oliver refused to eat after that, so I guess garlic’s something to avoid for awhile!
@rositta: Thanks! I figure the gas problem will work out with time as well.
@j: Thanks – that’s good to hear!
@o-tay: I really am!
@andrea: We have Lefax drops and they seem to help. It does seem like he’s always been there. It’s only been 8 days, but it’s hard to remember life without him.
@barbara: I am surprised how well I am coping, I figured hours with a crying baby would drive me insane, but it’s nothing like that at all!
@lisa: Thanks, Lisa! It’s nice to know others think he’s cute too, we’re biased
We can’t figure out whose ears he’s got though, we don’t recognize them at all!
@rita: Thanks!
@christina: No problemo! I think you’re right. The Hebamme said his intestines just need some time to get up to speed and the amount of crying is not too unusual.
