My doc announced this morning that “nothing is going on down there.” Serious bummer. She also estimates Oliver at about 3.5 kg, or 7.7 lbs. So far this is not too big in my eyes. My mom is a tiny Asian lady and I was naturally born at 8 lbs 6 oz (3.8 kg), so I figure my not tiny frame can still handle 3.5 kilos.
I’m ready to meet Oliver, and I’m a little bit tired of the whole pregnancy thing. Speaking of tired, I’m completely exhausted and have started requiring half-day naps. And my feet are KILLING me.
People have begun asking me whether I will go back to work right away. This seems a bit of a contrast from what I’d heard about Germans in the former West expecting new moms to stay home with the baby the first two years. I always answer that I’m not sure if or when I will go back to work, I want to see what it’s like to be a stay-at-home-mom first. Maybe I’ll love it, or maybe I’ll be sending out CVs as soon as possible. Maybe they are just waiting for me to say, “Yes, I’m going back to work,” so that they can get all judgemental on my booty. (And Regensburg is not a city with a plethora of statistician positions, so there’s no rush to get to work here anyway).
Yesterday, Sarah made the trek all the way up the mountain to visit. We then saw the new Harry Potter in the evening. When I was a kid, we’d go on vacation to the Outer Banks (NC). One day there was a bad thunderstorm, so we went to the movies. The electricity cut out for a few minutes, but came back on pretty quickly and the movie resumed. Nobody seemed upset. But as we left the theater, the staff handed out two free movie passes to each person. Last night, I’d guess that at least five minutes of the movie, including the whole section taking place in the Hog’s Head, were mistakenly played in German. There was quite a lot of yelling and whistling by the audience and many people got up to, I assume, complain. A guy (I’m guessing a manager) eventually came in to announce that it would take some time to fix. Did he apologize? I don’t remember, maybe he did. Did we get anything upon leaving? Nope. Did anyone expect it? Nope.
I enjoyed the movie, but missed all of Fred and George’s antics from the book, Ron didn’t have much of a part, and I think Grawp shoulda been cut. Seriously, they wanted to take Creature out and leave Grawp in? Why? Unless he is playing some important role in Book 7 (which will be arriving in four days – Yay!), I don’t see the point.

i thouroughly enjoyed OotP. you are right, though, where ron is concerned. *way* to little screen-time for the red-head. but then again, the script writers have never really taken a fancy to him. at least, it was no longer this overt focus on hermione like we had in the last film. but i have to say, the grawp-scene where he gives hermione the bike-handle is just too cute. i nearly squeed and pointed at the screen. lucky i got a grip on myself and did it only once: when lucius unexpectedly stood in that corridor with fudge. i guess, andrea didn’t fell like knowing me in that very second…
hope your feet are becoming better again, now that temperatures are dropping a bit. my mum always used to wrap wet, cold towels around her ankles. she was in her final month in july, too. and that one summer was one of those really hot ones, like we had last year.
@rita: I just thought the CGI was so fake looking for Grawp. I prefer CGI to not be so obvious. The towels thing sounds like a good idea. I’ve been putting lotion on my feet then propping them up in front of a fan. That feels good as well.
So he’s still in there, eh?
Our first was born 5 weeks early and the second 8 days late so you never know. The late one ended up surprising us with his 4090g but it wasn’t a problem at all.
Hi Christina,
Your friends are all counting the days with you.I can easily understand that you are weary at this point, and want to get on with it.
I’am sure that we will be hearing the good news soon
All the best to you.
@christina: Yeah, still in there. Er macht es sich bequem.
@barbara: I just look at it this way, he’s giving me time to read the last Harry Potter before he comes
Yeah, let’s hope he holds off till you’ve read the new Harry. I need to doublecheck when that’s out. I was working in a bookstore when the last one was published. Wow. Is all I can say.
@bowleserised: I can imagine that was a madhouse. The book comes out Saturday btw.
yeah! I am back online and checking daily – maybe that means it will all happen now! (if it hasn’t already!)Thinking of you mate!
@Ange: Yay! Glad to see you back online!
