It’s un-believable!

What’s so special bout this picture?

Christina, Charlie <span class=& Oliver - 31 July 2007" height="193" />

Why, it’s of me in my pre-pregnancy jeans!

I got on the scale this afternoon and was shocked to find that eight days after giving birth, I am only 3 pounds over my pre-pregnancy weight. This inspired me to try on my jeans and cha-ching - they fit! I can sit in them and everything - in fact, they fit well enough that I’m still wearing them right now as I type this up! My tummy is quite a bit flabbier - and my hips and butt are a slightly less pretty shape - but wow, this is reason to celebrate!

And here’s a picture of my sweety Oliver sleeping peacefully:

I posted two more videos to YouTube (here and here). They’re both very cute (in my admittedly biased opinion). I’ll be posting videos there regularly for my family back in the States, but from now on, I will only post about especially cute videos here, so as not to overwhelm the readers who may not be as into baby videos as some, so if you want to see the new videos as I post them, just bookmark my YouTube user page and check it every once in a while.

My mother is claiming that Brother #1 is engaged and that he showed her the receipt for the engagement ring. When I spoke to him on Saturday, he admitted that he sorta had a girlfriend in Thailand, but that it wasn’t serious. Hmph. Who knows?

Since starting Oliver on Lefax drops, his tummy aches seem to have improved and he’s crying a lot less. I’ve also been drinking lots of Stilltee (breastfeeding tea), which may have helped my milk to come in - it came in the same day I started drinking - coincidence? I dunno. But then Rainer cooked pasta with garlic last night and Oliver refused to drink after that, so I guess I’ll need to be going easy on the garlic in the future. Strange - I ate a ton of garlic during pregnancy, he should like it!

One week old!

I will try to get around to writing up the birth this week. In the meantime, I uploaded my first video to YouTube, made of Oliver this morning:

Here’s Oliver on Saturday:

And this is us from yesterday:

Oliver is a bit of a cranky guy. He’s been having problems with gas, so sometimes he cries and cries. Oddly, I am still completely smitten with him even when he is hollering bloody murder. I never had “motherly” feelings before. I didn’t coo at babies or get all gushy about them. I pretty much felt like, if I never had a baby, it wouldn’t be too big of a deal for me. Rainer wanted a family though and I was okay with that, if perhaps a bit hesitant about my parenting skills. But it is really so wonderful having a baby. I can’t believe I waited this long. It’s amazing to think that I’ve only known this guy a week and I am so totally head-over-heels in love with him. I am completely content to cuddle with him, or just watch him sleep, all day long (this doesn’t bode well for keeping up with blogging regularly, but maybe I will just need an adjustment period and I’ll be able to slip back into some of my old routine).

Welcome to the world!

Christina and Oliver in the hospital - 25 July 2007

Introducing: Oliver Martin Spang
Born: July 23, 2007 at 12:17pm in Regensburg, Germany
Weight: 3820 grams (8 lbs, 6.8 oz)
Length: 52 cm (20.5 inches)

Water broke at 6am on July 22 - labor was induced at 6pm later that day. It was tough, but we’re doing well now and we’re happy to be at home. I’m exhausted and sitting is not fun, so I’m taking a posting mini-break and I’ll be back with a full report on the birth in a few days.

Finally at home! - 25 July 2007

We’re all happy to be home!

Either I’m having serious bladder control issues, or my water has broken. They said a trickle - A TRICKLE? Haha.

So, I finished HPatDH and had a nice nap. Off to hospital.

The new Harry Potter has arrived - Oliver has not.

See you when I’m done!

…cause I’m just that tired, I thought I’d let everyone know that Oliver has not yet been born. ;-)

Tomorrow I’m looking forward to lunch with O-Tay and Wee Laddie. I’m not sure how they will get here now, as I have no idea which roads are open and which are closed anymore. I would think that this would complicated things for the Laaber Bürgerfest (citizen’s festival) on Saturday, but we’ll see. Speaking of Saturday, we (actually, I, Rainer hasn’t read any of the HP books) will be eagerly awaiting my HP book 7, and once it arrives, I suppose I will head down to the Fest for a little while before I disappear with the book.

I’ve been told (by Laaberers, so it might not be the most accurate info) that the Laaber Bürgerfest is the best one in the area, and that the FC Bayern Fan Verein stall has the best Schweinshaxe ever created. There will also be five stages of music. Pretty impressive for a tiny little village, I’d say! I’ll be sure to sample all the goodies and take lots of pictures. If you decide to brave the road construction to head over here, send me an email. And if blogging is sparse or nonexistant for the next few days, that does not necessarily mean that we’ve had an addition to the family.

In family news, it sounds like there may be good reason for a trip to Bangkok in the possibly near future. Brother #2 reports that Brother #1 has been buying a lot of international calling cards and just returned from his second four week trip to the Thai capital so far this year. Brother #1 is too shy to confirm anything, so, we’ll just have to wait and see what’s going on there.

In more family news, my mother has decided that it’s time to retire and has put her restaurant on the market. So if you live in the Northern Virginia area and like really good Thai food, head over to Siam Classic on 9403 East Street in Manassas while you still can. (I mention the address since I seem to have developed a large Virginia/DC-area following). Reservations are recommended on Friday and Saturday nights, or be prepared for a long wait.
