I was recently tagged for this meme by two expat bloggers in Thailand, Ange from Thai me Kangaroo down sport… and Vanalli from The Lost Boy. It was a really difficult meme for me to do, and took quite a bit of thought, but here are my answers based on what I am feeling right at this moment (my music tastes change depending on my mood, so yeah…).
5 – You’re going on a long journey, what five albums MUST you take with you? Albums that you need to listen to regularly.
Green Day – American Idiot
Johnny Cash – American IV: The Man Comes Around
Ben Folds Five – Whatever & Ever Amen
Pearl Jam – Riot Act
Usher – Confessions
4 – What four albums/songs do you most associate with a journey or travel experience? You know, the ones you listen to that instantly transport you back to a place and time.
Herbert Groenemeyer – Mensch — this song always reminds me of first moving to Germany
Sportfreunde Stiller – ’54, ’74, ’90, 2006 and Hermes House Band – Three Lions — it’s not really a journey or travel experience, but whenever I hear these songs, I am instantly transported back to the World Cup in Germany last year. That was a great time.
Peter Gabriel – In Your Eyes — Also nothing to do with travel, but this always brings me back to high school sock hops – Billy Idol’s Mony Mony, REM’s End of the World as we know it, and Violent Femmes’s Blister in the Sun too.
INXS – Kick — Makes me think of random school field trips. I think it was one of the few cassettes I had when I was younger, so it was the soundtrack for a lot of trips. Falco 3 was another of those few cassettes!
3 – Your three favorite songs of all time? (I agree with Ange – so NOT easy!)
REM – Leaving New York
Ben Fold’s Five – Brick
Pearl Jam – In My Tree
2 – Two feel good songs, the ones that are guaranteed to lift the blues and put a smile on your face.
U2 – Beautiful Day
Sublime – Santeria — yeah, it’s a little violent, but it’s such an upbeat tune
1 – Absolute, overall, undoubtedly the best album of all time, in your opinion. (Really difficult to just pick one)
Beach Boys – Pet Sounds
So who do I tag? Hmmm, let’s try to get an eclectic group together. I’ll tag: Grafs of Grafs Headfirst, Red Squirrel of Angry Linguist’s Journal, and Rita of Rita’s Kleine Welt. Okay, they’re all women, not THAT eclectic. So sue me!

it’s done.
you have some great choices there.
@rita: You do as well!
Meme received and being processed. Yes, I believe we have different tastes in music, but I like everything when it comes down to it.
Leaving New York – that is a great song! That song takes me back to a painful overnight bus trip from London to Glasgow where I listened to that CD non stop for 12 or so hours!
Ben Folds Five – I haven’t thought about them in forever but I love that cd. I’m going to have to dig mine out to listen to it in the car now
And I used to have the Green Day one too, even saw them in concert in college. That seems like a long time ago!
@grafs: I’m looking forward to seeing your answers!
@ange: 12 hours, wow! The CD as a whole is really good though. One of my favs.
@andrea: You must mean their CD Dookie, cause American Idiot just came out. Dookie was big when I was in high school. I can’t believe how long ago that was!
Ohhh, lots of BF and Pearl Jam… I so approve!
It was a great concert. We also saw Pearl Jam last year. So far they’re the only two concerts we’ve been to since moving to Germany, but both were well worth it!
@Eurotrippen: I saw Pearl Jam in NC during the Binaural tour. They were awesome. Too bad I couldn’t get tickets to the concert in München.
