My wrists are killing me, apparently carpel tunnel is pretty common in late pregnancy, because our bodies are retaining more fluids (my feet show this quite clearly). I’m still exhausted, despite having slept through MOST of last night. In general I’m pretty blah today, so since that’s nothing interesting to read about, here are some news articles I found informative/entertaining:
Farmers Demand Payment For Trampled Fields, Activists Won’t Cough Up
Many German farmers are sympathetic to the goals of the anti-globalization activists protesting against the G-8 in Heiligendamm. However their sympathy abruptly disappears when their livelihood is threatened.
I still couldn’t find any pictures on the internet to show the state the protesters left the fields in (trampled and full of trash). Odd.
On the other hand:
G-8 Protesters Praised for Non-Violent Civil Disobedience
The peaceful blockades by anti G-8 demonstrators at the summit in Heiligendamm have allayed fears of mass violence stoked by last Saturday’s riot in Rostock, and have won praise in the German media.
From the village where Charlie’s old Tierpension (kennel) was located, near our old apartment in Potsdam:
Missing Doctor Lay Dead in Garage for 22 Years
A doctor who went missing 22 years ago has been found dead in the loft of his garage after apparently committing suicide in 1985. His wife and daughter were unaware they were living meters away from his corpse.
Seriously, wouldn’t they have noticed the funky smell?
In odd baby-technology news:
Honey, the baby’s spacewalking
Since Sunday, one of the two channels on Natalie Meilinger’s baby monitor has been picking up black-and-white video from inside the space shuttle Atlantis. The other still lets her keep an eye on her baby.
Sad that the Harry Potter phenomenon will soon come to a close? Perhaps a successor has been found:
Publisher claims to have found Potter successor
“I knew from page one that Harry Potter was magic,” Cunningham said earlier, “Reading Tunnels gave me the same thrill, discovering a world of imagination just beyond our ordinary lives.” He confidently predicted that “millions of children” would soon be feeling much the same way.
And finally, file this under reasons why you shouldn’t have unprotected casual sex:
Mo. Man With HIV Gets Life Term for Sex
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — A man who spent five years in jail for exposing sexual partners to HIV was sentenced to life in prison for knowingly exposing another woman to the virus.[...]
“I think it’s fairly clear he is a very dangerous individual,” Buchanan County Prosecutor Dwight Scroggins said after the sentencing. “If he is not in prison, he would likely continue to spread HIV.”
Like people don’t have sex in prison. Sure.

Hey there. I’m sorry you’re feeling so poorly. I saw a couple of things on CNNI about the G8 protesters’ garbage – it was bad. There were piles of crap everywhere. Kind of ironic – lots of those people were there on environmental grounds, yet they trashed the place.
And FYI, St. Joe is about 30 minutes away from my hometown. Yeah, we grow some real winners in Missouri.
Crap. That beatrix kiddo one was me. Stupid Blogger…
I’m glad they are prosecuting people for knowingly spreading disease, though I agree with your sex in prison observation. I wonder if a Silence of the Lambs style restraint would be cruel and unusual…
I am going to be sad when you are so busy that you can’t blog properly!
Yeah, I had Carpal Tunnel Syndrome all through my second pregnancy. Not fun at all but it usually goes away.
There were pictures of the damage to the fields on German news when it first happened. Looked pretty bad.
@Sarah: Exactly (on the trash thing)! And I’ve got plenty of relatives in Missouri too.
@Grafs: LOL! I’d say this guy definitely needs some sort of restraint!
@vailian: Aw! You’re so sweet! I’ve been feeling like my posts have been really boring lately (and not too much about Germany). I’m hoping I won’t drop off the face of the planet when Oliver arrives!
@Christina: I took yesterday off from computer activities and my wrists feel a little better today. I probably just need to cut back on my web surfing for the next month or so!
