I was tagged by both Barbara and Martina, so here goes:
1. I have to post these rules before I give you the facts.
2. Each player starts with eight random facts/habits about themselves.
3. People who are tagged need to write their own blog about their eight things and post these rules.
4. At the end of your blog, you need to choose eight people to get tagged and list their names.
5. Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re tagged, and to read your blog.
8 random facts/habits about Christina:
1. I knew I visited Thailand many times a child, but it wasn’t until my grandfather passed away and one of his high school friends sent us copies of all the letters he’d written her over the years that I found out that up until I started school, my mom would take me for six months out of the year to Bangkok.
2. Despite the fact that I must have spoken Thai as a child, I can’t speak it now. My mom said that she spoke Thai to us at least up until both my brothers were born (so up until I was at least 6 years old), but at some point I started answering only in English and she gave up. (Note to parents: no matter how hard your kids fight bilingualism, don’t give up! They’ll appreciate it someday!)
3. I love looking up information. That’s why my favorite pastime is genealogy and I make posts about American product equivalents.
4. I may take (3) a little overboard when making big decisions. I cannot make a large decision until I’ve thoroughly researched the subject and examined it from all possible angles. For purchases, I need to read all the consumer testing reports I can get my hands on, all the professional opinions in magazines and on websites, and all the user comments I can find. This can take months. I also will not generally offer my own opinion until it is at least 95% formed, this drives Rainer nuts.
5. I am so anal in my decision making process that I made a huge multiattribute utility model examining all possible influencing factors to help me decide where to go to grad school. I was quite open with the schools about what I was doing and they still let me in despite this. (I did turn the model in as a semester project for a decision and risk analysis class, so it wasn’t entirely “just for fun”).
6. I started off at VCU with a track scholarship for shot put and discus. In my first semester, I failed a comp sci class (Computer Architecture) and the team manager suggested I try an easier major, instead I quit the team and paid back the scholarship.
7. In high school I could squat 450 pounds – more than any of the guys. On coming home from college for the first time after training with the track team at VCU, my dad said my legs looked like an NFL linebacker’s legs. (That’s what training 4-6 hours a day will get ya)
8. I’ve never gotten out of a ticket, fine, or punishment. I used to get seriously pissed at the people who could always talk their way out of stuff.
And since I don’t think I can come up with eight people who haven’t done this meme yet, if you haven’t done it, do it and leave a link in the comments.
