Yesterday, Rainer and I met up with O-tay and fam to take in our first baseball game in Germany. We headed over to the Armin-Wolf Arena at Donaustaufer Straße 260 to watch the Regensburg Legionäre take on the Gauting Indians. Despite some ominous morning storm clouds, the weather turned out to be perfect for a day at the ballpark. The Regensburg stadium is the largest baseball stadium in Germany, with 1000 seats and a 2000 person capacity. The turnout was not huge, I’d say there were only a couple hundred fans there, but they were very enthusiastic, and surprisingly, very much German. I had really expected that the baseball fans would be mostly North and Central Americans with possibly a few Japanese expats thrown in, but I hardly spotted a foreigner amongst the bunch.The level of play is not quite what I’d consider professional. It was something like watching a really good high school team, or maybe an average college team. But it was a lot of fun being at a baseball game again, and Rainer, who got quite into baseball while living in the States, has requested a return visit in the next two weeks. He’s even talking about season tickets for next year. I’m already planning on signing up Oliver for the t-ball and little league teams sponsored by the Legionäre. I think I could certainly train him up to be a future Legionär! Now we just need to find a teeny tiny baseball glove!

I didn’t know they play baseball in Germany. Thank you for your kind words. I get to see my son from Calgary next week and meet my new grandaughter…ciao
they probably sell baby baseball gloves on ebay.
@rositta: Congrats on the new granddaughter!
@rita: I bet there are some on ebay… hmmm…
Thanks again for your tremendous patience at our (what must have seemed exceedingly rude) tardiness. We enjoyed hanging out in the same general vicinity as you & Rainer!
I didn’t know either that they had baseball in Germany. I was lying all those years to my students then
@O-tay: It was no problem. I don’t expect that we’ll always be on time when Oliver’s here – we’re also late fairly often as is! Let me know if you want to do it again sometime!
@bek: Well now you know!
Many baseball players are in high demand for batting gloves used by the best MLB players in the game. Check out the newest Nike, Mizuno, TPX, and Easton batting gloves worn by players like Alex Rodriguez, Jimmy Rollins, and Derek Jeter!
