I stayed up till 2am to watch The Police open the Grammys and first, ProSieben had to make sure that we saw every last credit of the should-have-been-Oscar-nominated-film “Highway Psychos”, so that as soon as the last credit rolled off the screen, there was a voice that said, “And here are The Police”. I say voice, because the screen was black with some blue and green dots running diagonally across. Then, after about 5 seconds of hearing The Police start “Roxanne”, ProSieben decides to cut away to showing a video by the clearly more musically talented band Monrose (I think they won some German version American Idol-esque show recently). I did finally get to see the last few seconds of The Police and some random banter by Jamie Foxx about how white people in Ohio didn’t get his Snoop Dogg joke before technical problems cut the signal again. Then there were the Dixie Chicks dancing to some random electronic noise. Aha… I hear the video from Monrose playing again. Oh happy happy joy joy! I hate ProSieben right now. I wish I could do something with this hate, but I’m sure that the ProSieben folks don’t really care what I think. Argh!
Oh I’m spittin’ mad now!

Oh no! And you stayed up until 2 am for that… I’d be hot too! Down with ProSieben!
Yeah, that was pretty lame, staying up for nothing…
However, thanks to the Interweb, the performance is up there somewhere, as is a Police-sanctioned streaming video of their rehearsal. Google is your friend, because I’ve lost the URL.
@ed: I searched the morning after but I guess it was too soon, then I forgot about it, but thanks for the reminder! And to those interested, The Police performance can be seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6sHXCs84iJc
And James Blunt’s performance has been criticized by some as being too subdued, but I found it quite emotional. By the way, random facts: James Blunt served with the British Army as a peacekeeper in Kosovo and wrote “You’re Beautiful” after seeing an ex-girlfriend with her new boyfriend on the tube.
