Küchenzauber!

I was waiting for all kitchen work to be done, but since that may go on indefinitely, here are before and after pics of our new kitchen.

Kitchen before – disgusting blue grout!

Yes, that is what you get in a rented apartment in Germany, a water heater, well, if you’re lucky. Actually, in the former East we found it pretty easy to rent apartments with built-in-kitchens (Einbauküche), but there weren’t even any to look at down here (although two families did offer to sell their kitchens to us for €5000 and €8000, respectively).

Kitchen backing and Ikea hanging cover unsightly tile!

I love having the oven higher up

The cupboards are cream with cappuccino fronts and the counter top is coffee bean. Two walls are painted rose and the other two are Nutella colored.

Next job, light fixture and kitchen chairs. You can’t see, but at the moment the kitchen is being lit by a bare fluorescent bulb.

That looks like an AWESOME kitchen. I just get what my husband’s company provides…and for now, I dream of my kitchen in the US. LOL! I get to visit my house in four months… (insert picture of me drooling) In the mean time, I will lust after your kitchen. :)

Ihre Küche ist fantastisch!

Thank you, thank you, thank you everyone. What I love about the kitchen is not even in the picture. There is a door to our large terrace just off the kitchen (you can see the light coming in through the door in the second picture). I can’t wait until it gets warm enough that we can just take our meals out there!

Christina,

it’s simply *amazing* what you did with the kitchen! The “before” picture looks so disappointing, it’s hard to believe that the “after” is in the same room!!

@martina: I think painting the walls makes a big difference. The whole apartment was pretty disappointing (but €300/month less than every other place), but with colorfully painted walls, it feels quite homey!

that’s a great looking kitchen. I love the window too.

Thanks J!

That’s SO cute! I really like the colours you chose and the oven in the wall is great. Wish we had room for that. When we moved into our house, our kitchen looked something like your before picture. Grungy walls, horrible tiles and a water heater. Ugh.

Absolutely gorgeous! All of the colors are right up my alley…

Man, now I’m going to covet this kitchen. lol

@Christina: It’s such a change here from how apartments and houses usually look in the US (and I guess Canada as well?) when put on the market.

@Eurotrippen: Yeah, I just love rich earth tones!

WOW! Gorgeous! Good job! I showed my hubby, who works for IKEA, what ppl do with “his” products, lol. Hmmm… why doesn’t our kitchen look half that good, then? ;-)

@debbie: Wow, what I nice compliment! Yeah, we had a devil of a time trying to think of something to cover the tile on that section of the wall – Rainer didn’t want the kitchen to go round the corner because it would make it harder to move when we do move, and finally while walking through IKEA, I saw these hangings and voilá! They go perfectly with the color scheme!
