Holy Cow I’m White and Nerdy

This morning while channel surfing, I landed briefly on Viva, where I found out that Ridin’ by Chamillionaire was Germany’s #1 downloaded ring tone of 2006. First I thought, are there really enough people downloading ring tones to warrant the constant, unending ring tone commercials on MTV, Viva, and Comedy Central? I guess it must be a popular past time for German teens and preteens. Rainer says that our child will never download a ring tone. I told him, “Good luck with that.” Second, I remembered the hilarious Weird Al video White & Nerdy and ended up buying it off ITunes.

And just how nerdy am I? I don’t know any Klingon, but vector calculus certainly CAN be fun! Well, I liked it anyways. I even did it at work sometimes just to pass the time - you know, deriving posterior distributions and such. Or maybe that’s not something I should admit to. And are they still teaching Pascal? I think around when I was a junior in college I heard the intro programming classes switched to teaching Java instead.

Also in my channel surfing, I found a show Besser Essen (Better Eating), on Pro7, which was clearly based on a US Learning Channel show whose name I don’t remember. Anyways, they both have the same format and use age progression software to show how your kids will look in 10 years if they do or don’t change their habits.

And the Super Bowl will be airing this Sunday starting at 11:40pm on ARD for any fans or late owls out there.

    Sadly, I asked my husband, ” What do they mean by ‘Ridin’ Dirty?” Yes, I am a white girl from Minnesota.

    @maria: That’s right about the TV show. I think I like the German title better.

    And my first ever html question! (well, sorta). When you copy the embed code from Youtube, you should be able to change around the width and height values to make the screen fit your blog, but I don’t have to change them for mine, it just fits. You need to change them in proportion, but usually with objects, if you delete the height and just set the width, then the proportions stay intact(e.g., width=”???”).

    The “White and Nerdy” video is hilarious! And how old is Weird Al? He’s been making parodies for a loooong time. Remember “Eat It” - the parody of Michael Jackson’s “Beat It”? My fiance loves the original “Ridin Dirty” and we still make jokes about it all the time. Maria - he didn’t know what “riding dirty” was either so don’t feel bad!

    LOL! I have a sudden urge for a round of mine sweeper.. brings back good grad school memories of dissertation writing avoidance.

    @SM: He must be in his 40s, didn’t “Eat It” come out at least 20 years ago?

    @michelle: mine sweeper and freecell were my distractions of choice, although the nordstrom.com shoe section could always be counted on for a nice 10 minutes of thesis-avoidance daydreaming ;-)

    Hey, Thanks!!! I had tried to change them but nothing happened…then I realized that I was only changing the first set of numbers and not the embedded part. The new videos of The Boy are now a decent size!
