Two wrongs don’t make a right

So this week I was wrong about two things. First, according to my baby book (so technically, I’m not the one that was wrong), the sex of the baby becomes discernable sometime around 10-12 weeks, so I assumed my super-duper ultrasound at St. Hedwig’s hospital today would reveal the sex. Leider nicht. The doctor says that that surprise is still six weeks away.

Second, the other day on CNN World Sport, there was an interview with the owner of the LA Galaxy and he stated that it was his biggest dream to sign Beckham and that he thought this to be an attainable dream. My response: “Pshaw!” (Yes, I actually did say “Pshaw!”) “There’s no way Beckham’s going to the US anytime soon.” Rainer disagreed and prophetically stated that he thought this could happen in the very near future. Well, Rainer was right this time and Beckham has signed with the Galaxy:

LONDON — David Beckham agreed to a five-year deal with the Los Angeles Galaxy of Major League Soccer, leaving the Real Madrid club at which he enjoyed worldwide popularity but experienced disappointment on the field.

and later in the article:

“David Beckham will have a greater impact on soccer in America than any athlete has ever had on a sport globally,” said Timothy J. Leiweke, president & CEO of Anschutz Entertainment Group, which owns the Galaxy. “David is truly the only individual that can build the bridge between soccer in America and the rest of the world.”

Wotchyu talkin’ bout Willis? I dunno, but I sure did love that Pele lunch box I had back in elementary school. I wonder what happened to that lunch box, it’d probably be worth a lot of money now…

If I had heard the Beckham musings before the original announcement, I would have been skeptical too.

I don’t think I would have said, “Phsaw!”. Maybe something more along the lines of “As if!”

The British commentators on CNN World still don’t seem to believe it. Their reactions are pretty funny.

The owner of the Galaxy must have some spare change. Maybe he could send some my way? ;-)

Doctors in the US don’t even check until 20 weeks for the sex… you’d think they could do it sooner to please all of the inquiring minds! :)

@christina: US women footie, on the other hand, is a whole different story!

@maria: I would have to agree with you on both counts there :-)

@rita: Germany’s got a good women’s national team too, it’s too bad the sport just hasn’t caught on with the public here.
