We’re moved in and have DSL! OH RAPTURE! So this morning our landlord came over and helped us set up the DSL line that we share with him. He reminds me a lot of Arnold Schwarzeneggar, except he would be more like Arnie if he didn’t become a body builder and was just a regular guy living in a small Bavarian village. Or maybe it’s that he reminds me of Juergen Prochnow playing Arnold in the fairly lame biopic about the governor’s race that I saw on Premiere a couple weeks ago.
Anyways, we’re mostly all unpacked, not that I’ve been able to help. After a small medical emergency on Thursday, I have been ordered to take it easy and hang out in bed for a while (as opposed to carrying large heavy boxes and assembling IKEA furniture on my own while Rainer is out having super yummy dinner with doctor-types). If you are awaiting an email reply from me, be patient, my inbox has over 500 new messages and I am slowly wading through them all.
And our kitchen never arrived. We waited, then called, and the local kitchen studio decided to play dumb and said they didn’t know anything about delivering a kitchen to us. The Potsdam branch that we ordered it from then called and yelled at them and they decided that they did know about it, but that we told them not to bring it (yeah, whatever!), so now we will be two weeks without a kitchen. This sucks. We are living on microwaveable frozen food and takeout pizza. Not the start I’d hoped for.
But our neighbors seeem very nice and all that we’ve met have told us to tell them if we need anything. There are also apparently at least two other American families living in this small village of 3000 (what are the odds of that?). We’ve seen representatives of both families on the street but haven’t yet been properly introduced. Anyways, my arm is getting sore so I’ll sign off for now. Peace out!

Nice to have you back in the “real” world Christine! Tell us some of your first impressions… if statistics are anything to go by, you will be there many years from now, and it will be interesting to compare your initial reactions to how you feel in, say 30 years
Well at least you have DSL.
What a drag about the kitchen, though. Hope you have fun settling in!
@vailian: ugh, not sure I’m prepared to think about spending the next 30 years in Germany yet. Right now I’m taking it a year at a time! But I’ll certainly keep you posted on my thoughts and impressions of living in a small Bavarian village and on Regensburg as well.
@christina: Thanks. So far, settling in has been mostly pleasant!
I agree with Christina, Christina. A decent internet connection is more important than a kitchen. And sorry about your medical incident, though it was, at least, well timed if it gets you out of lugging boxes around. Hurrah for well-timed medical incidents!
hey, you’re back! sucks to hear you’re without kitchen right now. you want me to send a care-package down to bavaria? just drop me a line when your microwaveable diet becomes unbearable.
Welcome back! Glad the move went ok other than the kitchen and the medical incident. Hope the settling in doesn’t take too long.
Hi Christina,
How are you feeling? Drop me an email with your new #.
Take care,
Lynn
@bib: it is nice having DSL, but it would also be nice to have a good plate of eggs and bacon, or some chicken lad na or mmmm… meatloaf, or….
@rita: thanks for the offer, unfortunately what I need is a stove. I guess pancakes wouldn’t taste as good after a few days in the post
@michelle: thanks, medical incident is behind me now and kitchen is starting to get on my nerves. Let’s see… only 10 *gulp* days to go.
@lynn: I’m doing okay and the email is sent!
