We’re moving to…

Regensburg!!!

Anonymous-M wins. So do you want cookies (if so what kind?) or a silk scarf (if so, square or rectangular and what color scheme?)? You’ll also have to email me your address.

Regensburg is in Bayern (Bavaria) at the confluence of the Regen and Donau (Danube) Rivers. It is famous for its almost intact medieval city center (the city sustained very little damage during WWII), which has been named a UNESCO World Heritage site. It’s cathedral was begun in 1275 and finished in 1634, and its oldest church, the Obermünster, dates from 1010.

Notable residents include Pope Benedict XVI, who was a professor of theology at the University; Oskar Schindler, after WWII and before he emigrated to Argentina; and Johannes Kepler, mathematician and astronomer.

Christina,

yay, I won!!!

Seriously, though, I don’t want a prize, I was just after the fun in guessing where you’re moving to.

When’s the big day?

The big day will be in early December some time. Hopefully Bavarians are not as bad as the stereotype!

bavarians in winter all come with a red nose due to icy weather. is that a stereotype already? ;)

i hope the move down south will be be smooth.

Yeah, I’m not particularly that into snow. It’s pretty to look at, but going outside in it is a pain. Not sure how I will survive the winter on top of a mountain…

We live in the US and are likely moving to Regensburg in July. What do you think so far or are you even there yet? We have 2 children. What area did you choose to live in?
thanks

Hi there. We just moved here on the 5th, so I haven’t got a lot of thoughts on Regensburg yet (especially since we moved to a small village -Laaber- about 20 km outside of Regensburg). I guess just keep reading the blog and you’ll get all my thoughts on my new hometown! Good luck with the move (and my first impression is that there may be a lot of Americans in the area, but I’m not sure about that).

Hallo,

Claudia

Freut mich dich kennezulernen, Claudia. Regensburg ist ein toller Stadt. Es gibt viele Amerikaner in Regensburg und umgebung, und die meisten das ich kenne, wohne gern in Deutschland. So I say to your family that Regensburg is a great place to live and German is not that hard to learn once you live here and are fully immersed :)

Viele Grüße,
Christina
