So Germany now has “Deal or No Deal”, an awful game show that I first experienced in the US over Christmas (maybe it’s just that I’m a statistician, so I can’t enjoy games of chance). Germany also has Quiz Taxi, but this may have preceded the US version, I’m not sure. Oh! But on the last Quiz Taxi I watched, the people got a Red Light Question to name six German state capitals and I did it way before they could (they almost ran out of time)! Yay me!
I watched the MTV Music Awards yesterday and I don’t know who half the bands are. Interestingly, the rap and hip hop groups make it over here, but I had no idea who most of the rock groups were; like Panic! At The Disco, and the people who won Best Video, something with American in the title, I think. But I guess it’s true that I don’t hear that much rock on the radio over here, but I listen to the pop/hip hop station and Rainer’s favorite is the station that has a 3 CD Best of 70′s, 80′s and 90′s set that they just put on shuffle, so that just may be selection bias.
I had a banner week in socializing. On Tuesday I met up with Lynn, a Canadian expat who contacted me through a comment on this very blog. She also lives in Potsdam and we plan to try out a Thai restaurant next week, so I guess I didn’t scare her off. Then Thursday we hung out with Michael, an old friend of Rainer’s. We went to dinner at Froschkasten, which I don’t recommend, so I won’t mention it further. And Rainer’s best friend Tobias is in town this weekend. Rainer spent a night at Tobias’ place in Wurzburg during a recent trip to Regensburg in June, but I haven’t seen him since his wedding last fall.
What’s up this week? Tomorrow we go to Hamburg and I need to figure out what I want to see there. Monday I have my annual checkup at the Frauenarzt (obgyn), and although my appointment is at 8am, I’m sure I won’t be seen until at least 11am. And finally Tuesday I go to the Auslaenderbehoerder to find out if I have been granted permanent residency!
