Halftime

It’s 0:2 to the Czech Republic, and Czech player Jan Koller left the game with what appeared to be a bad hamstring injury. I’m no big football fan, so here are two observations from someone who doesn’t know anything about football:

  1. The USA players slide a lot more than the other teams. Is this a good thing? Bad thing? I dunno. Probably just a difference in style.
  2. More often than with other teams I am left wondering who the heck the USA player thought they were passing to, as there were no teammates anywhere near where they kicked the ball.

That’s it. Here’s hoping for a USA comeback in the 2nd half!

Nice to see another expat watching the game. My theory is, the american team has spent too much time watching basketball (all those long tries that end up in the top of the net), plus too much time playing the game on game consoles. The European teams can sense each other much more (passing more effective)

All that passing BACKWARDS, they haven’t got a chance. Am I wasting my time watching??

Yeah, I wonder if I should bother watching the Italy v. USA game. Do I really want to watch the USA getting destroyed? (And be taunted by thousands of Italian fans if I watch it at the Berlin Fan Fest?)

I don’t mind seeing the USA lose, they might learn some humility that would stand them in good stead in other places :) but it would somehow be nice if they made at least one goal.

The Italians won’t taunt you… I was just watching the italian game in the pizzeria on the corner here in Cologne, they will more likely pity us.

I’m sure I will go. I just wanted to give my husband a hard time for ditching me during the USA game last night to have a beer. ;-)

Here’s hoping for at least one goal!
