Admittedly, I did not watch Bush’s speech. Listening to his bull**** is just not high on my to-do list. I think I was doing a crossword at the time. But Rainer called immediately afterwards to say, “This guy is crazy!” In reference to Bush’s plan to free the world from tyranny, Rainer stated that, “the world did not elect this lunatic, he should keep his craziness in the US.”
Spiegel Online has an interesting article comparing the propaganda of the Bush administration to that of Leni Riefenstahl’s work for the Nazi party. In comparing the US with Nazi Germany, German historian Fritz Stern is quoted as saying, “It’s very unlikely history will repeat itself. It’s much more likely that we’ll be confronted with the danger of a completely new type of authoritarianism. The US is starting to look like a Christian fundamentalist plutocracy.”
