Jet laaaaagg
Well, tonight is the first night of my trip to Virginia. The flight was uneventful, except that I sat next to a very interesting man, so I got to spend half the flight talking about… well, everything. He was in the army and now works for a company that forecasts logistic technology for the army. He was a battalion commander in Desert Storm. He really thinks Bush is screwing up in Iraq and should have never gone, and that many of his military buddies feel the same. I feel bad for all the guys (and gals) sent to fight in Iraq. I asked him his opinion on the National Guard/Swift Boat controversy, and he thought that probably there was some truth to both stories, but what does it matter anyway. He thinks it’s just getting in the way of talking about real issues. I had to agree with everything he said (I basically had all the same opinions, but not necessarily the same information). He reminded me of talking to my dad about politics and history. He really seemed to know his stuff and was a lot like my dad. My dad died in October of 2001 of pancreatic cancer, and I really miss talking to him. He worked for the Department of Defense Inspector General’s office as Program Director of Readiness and really knew a lot about the government and the military and could give great insight into issues surrounding these entities. Not to mention that he read avidly, so he really knew a lot about everything. If you played the family against him in trivial pursuit, we didn’t stand a chance. He could answer most questions.
Well, I fell asleep at 9pm and now I’m up and wide awake at 1:30am. Argh, time change!
